A little glitter made the days better.
For me, 2020 saw more bare faces and freshly lathered skin care rather than full-beat glam. I certainly reached for makeup less, but that's not to say that there weren't some days where I wanted to get a little extra ready. In those moments, I continually used these products, deeming them the front runners of my makeup collection.
This year, I made it my mission to up my eyeliner game and stop playing it safe by lining my eyes with dark powder eyeshadows. If I wanted to get the look of a sharp, opaque wing, I needed to graduate to real eyeliner. At first, I struggled with liquid and felt-tip liners, but I found my strong suit in potted gel liners with an angled brush. This KVD Super Pomade is perfect for me. The formula is forgiving and doesn’t dry too fast, but once it sets, it lasts and doesn’t fade. It also washes off nicely with an oil cleanser, so no excessive scrubbing at my eyes!
More than any other year, I sought to embrace the simple pleasures in life, and some days, just a little bit of glitter on my eyelids really did it for me. I like that the Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliners don’t have to be worn as just eyeliners. You can sparsely diffuse them for a soft sparkle moment, or you can layer them up and give a disco ball a run for its money. Whatever you're feeling!
The way that these glimmering eyeshadows catch the light is ineffably breathtaking. I either use them as eyeshadow toppers to amp up my look or as standalone washes of sparkle on my lids. They make you look like you tried a lot harder than you did, which is always a plus. I love the warm, pinky-golden tones of the Orange Blossom eyeshadows, but if I could, I would own all the shade options from Kaja's collection.
Wow does CoverGirl get mascara right. First of all, the Clump Crusher doesn’t flake, which is a huge feat for me. It manages to make my lashes look long, fluttery, and voluminous, all while being affordable and accessible! I truly cannot see myself ever going back to purchasing $20+ mascaras when the drugstore has such an array of high-quality, well-performing options like this one.
I found this blush stashed in the back of a drawer and inside an old Ipsy bag. After realizing I never opened it, I swiped it across my cheeks and was absolutely astounded that I let it hide in such dark depths for so long. With my dry skin, I will use cream over powder products any day, but Pixi’s Fresh Face Blush formula is too beautiful to pass up. It’s pigmented, smooth, and not too pink, flushing my face with warmth. Criminally, Pixi doesn’t sell this blush individually, so I will definitely be looking for dupes in 2021.
This pale nude lip gloss with golden flecks of shimmer is such a joy to wear. Every time I apply it, I am delighted by its absolutely divine vanilla-mint flavor and effervescent, long-lasting shine. Whenever I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I feel an instant confidence boost and think, “Yeah, I need to wear this more often.”
ColourPop’s Ultra Glossy Lip formula has to be one of my favorites of all time. It lives up to its name, delivering a juicy, glass-like look while actually being quite hydrating and comfortable. I’m a huge fan of the brush-tip applicator and think Free Spirit’s peachy shade compliments my skin tone quite nicely. Also, how could I not love something associated with Frozen II?!
There's no doubt that these products will continue to be well-loved by me in 2021. Here's to more days in the makeup that makes me feel good! Happy New Year!
